WHAT WE OFFER

BIG PAL/LITTLE PAL

Statistics show that children born into poverty are 6 times less likely to graduate from high school, and then are 63 times more likely to be incarcerated by the time they are 24. With these facts in mind, Big Pal/Little Pal was created to serve as an after-school tutoring program for at-risk children to positively impact their academic performance and social and emotional development. Big Pal/Little Pal meets at the CRC trailer in Shady Hill throughout the school year to offer tutoring for children from pre-kindergarten through middle school. A summer reading program is offered from June through August.

SHADY HILL STRIDERS RUN CLUB

Every fall, CRC partners with the Richmond Sports Backers to offer a run club, the Shady Hill Striders, for the children in the Shady Hill community. With the help of volunteer coaches, the kids train twice a week to run a one-mile race in October. The run club provides each child with a team shirt and new running shoes. In addition to giving these children an opportunity to be on a team, the run club helps instill a passion for physical activity and an active lifestyle and can also have positive impacts on behavior and academic performance.

CHRISTMAS STORE

In December, we turn our facility into a store where parents can purchase Christmas presents for their children at deeply discounted prices. Through the generosity of local merchants and donors, we can provide for children who might otherwise go without, while respecting the dignity of their parents.
